Athletics Stats: Winners of the Stockholm Diamond League 2023 event-wise
The Stockholm Diamond League 2023 marked the end of the seventh leg of the Diamond League series on Sunday, July 2, 2023. The 2023 edition of the BAUHAUS-galan event was marked by persistent rain, which impacted various events and led to a two-hour delay for the men’s pole vault. However, the atmosphere at Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium was electrifying under the dazzling floodlights. With the evergreen hit “Lay All Your Love On Me” by ABBA playing at the stadium and an enthusiastic crowd of supporters cheering with fervor, the ambiance was one-of-a-kind despite the adverse weather conditions.
Highlights from the Stockholm Diamond League 2023
Karsten Warholm, the Olympic gold medalist and holder of the world record, gave an astounding performance in the 400m hurdles. He took a noticeable lead by the second barrier and continued to widen the gap with each hurdle and won in 47.57 seconds at the Stockholm Diamond League 2023. The men’s discus throw turned out to be one of the most exciting competitions of the day. World Champion Kristjan Ceh displayed unmatched prowess with four throws crossing 65 meters, the longest being 69.83 meters in the second round. Olympic gold medalist, Daniel Stahl, could only secure one valid throw of 67.57 meters, but the distance was enough to earn him second place.
Sandra Perkovic, one of the most celebrated Diamond League athletes, dominated the women’s discus throw with the two farthest throws, her second-round throw being an exceptional 64.49 meters. Valarie Allman, the Olympic champion, couldn’t make a mark after three attempts. In high jump, New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr emerged victorious under challenging weather conditions that made high-level performance tough. He achieved a height of 2.24 meters in his second attempt, clinching his maiden Diamond League victory.
The women’s long jump at the Stockholm Diamond League 2023 saw Larissa Iapichino of Italy shine who clinched her second Diamond League victory this season with a leap of 6.69 meters. The Olympic and World Champion Malaika Mihambo from Germany had to settle for the second spot with a 6.66 meters jump. An unexpected result was witnessed in the women’s 200m as Dina Asher-Smith was edged out by her fellow Brit Daryll Neita. Asher-Smith was ahead at the bend, but Neita’s persistence paid off as she crossed the finish line at 22.50 seconds. In the men’s 100m, Akani Simbine of South Africa continued his winning streak by securing his third consecutive win. In the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan snatched victory with a time of 12.52 seconds.
The men’s 3000m steeplechase was dominated by Olympic and World Champion Soufiane El Bakkali, who clinched his second Diamond League win of the season. Freweyni Hailu tasted success in the women’s 1500m after securing third place in Doha and second in Rabat. The men’s pole vault faced a delay of two hours due to weather conditions, but the crowd’s enthusiasm didn’t diminish. The local hero, Mondo Duplantis, was the star of the show, clinching victory with an astounding clearance of 6.05 meters.
