EPL stats: Which clubs have registered the most long balls in 2022-23 Premier League season?

The upcoming season is not far away from beginning, as clubs are involved in intense pre-season preparations. For pre-season, many teams have travelled to different locations. Some have stayed in Europe, while others have taken a longer trip to meet their supporters’ base in different parts of the world. Along the way, they also have friendlies and training camps to get their match fitness and sharpness levels back on track.

In the background, clubs are also working tirelessly to improve their squads in the transfer market. The teams are focussed on buying new ones and offloading the players who do not fit their plan for the upcoming season. While many teams would be happy to repeat the points tally from last term, some will have loftier ambitions. Before looking at the upcoming season, it is time to look back at one of the most notable stats from the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Which club has registered the most long balls?

The team that has registered the maximum number of long balls during the 2022-23 Premier League season is Brentford. They have managed 2,312 long balls over the league campaign. It is not a surprise to see Brentford at the top of this list, as they are known to put plenty of long balls and crosses into the box during their attacking phase to create panic among the opposition defence. It is a tactic that worked well for them last season, as Brentford finished at a respectable ninth spot in the EPL table.

Second in this list is Everton with 2,280 long balls. They had a largely forgettable season, which nearly resulted in them getting relegated to the second division. However, Everton did just about enough to maintain their Premier League status. Third is Liverpool with 2,186 long balls. The red half of the Merseyside neither had a season to remember, as they finished outside the Champions League places.

Manchester United have a place too

It is not a surprise to see the list being dominated by mid-table or lower-half sides. Normally, they resort to long-ball style of play to break down much-superior opponents. Among the big sides, Manchester United are placed tenth, having registered 1,963 long balls.
