Diamond League 2023 Stats: Winners of the London meet event-wise
At the London Diamond League 2023 athletics meet on Sunday, Femke Bol of the Netherlands clocked an astonishing 51.45 in the 400m hurdles, the third quickest ever recorded, shattering both her own Diamond League record and the European benchmark. Bol’s ground-breaking run set the pace for a day of record-shattering performances that included Noah Lyles in the 200m and Marie-Josee Ta Lou in the 100m.
American sprinter Noah Lyles added to his supremacy in the men’s 200m race, though he had to dig deep to secure victory in one of the day’s most hotly contested races. Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou stole the limelight in the women’s 100m. She completed the race in an exceptional 10.75, overtaking Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce‘s 2013 meeting record and equaling the UK all-comers’ record set by Fraser-Pryce in her 2012 Olympic triumph.
Despite an impressive start from Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who held a brief lead, it was Ta Lou who emerged victorious. Meanwhile, in the men’s shot put, American Ryan Crouser was back at his best and cleared the 23-meter mark for the first time since his record-breaking throw of 23.56m earlier in the year.
Some more prominent performances
On the track, Britain’s Jemma Reekie delighted the local crowd with her victory in the women’s 800m, clocking a season’s best of 1:57.30. This represented her second-fastest time ever and broke the meeting record by nearly a second. In the 110m hurdles, Grant Holloway maintained his usual high standard as he won the competition with a timing of 13.01s (1.3m/s).
South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk, back on this track for the first time since claiming his second world title in 2017, prevailed once again in the 400m. Over in the field, Olympic champion Daniel Stahl of Sweden won another discus duel against his main rival, world champion Kristjan Ceh.
