Diamond League 2023 stats: Winners of the Silesia meet event-wise

The Diamond League 2023 in Silesia witnessed a series of remarkable performances, with several athletes setting new records and achieving personal bests. Among the standout performances were the world and Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who took 0.81 off his European 1500m record with a winning time of 3:27.14 which moved him to fourth on the world all-time list. Moreover, Yulimar Rojas, another world and Olympic champion, won in the triple jump with a world-leading 15.18m in the final round.

In the high jump event, world and Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim achieved a winning height of 2.36m at the Silesia Diamond League 2023. The women’s high jump saw Ukraine’s Iryna Gerashchenko, Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers, and Ukraine’s Yuliia Levchenko all clear 1.98m, breaking and sharing the meeting record. In the javelin event, Haruka Kitaguchi grabbed the spotlight by setting a Japanese record with her final throw of 67.04m.

More notable performances at the Silesia Diamond League 2023

The women’s 1500m event, which was not a Diamond League scoring event, saw the first three finishers crossing the line in 3:55 or quicker, led by Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji. Hirut Meshesha and Birke Haylom were the second and third finishers in the event. Meshesha won in a meeting record time of 3:54.87, while Haylom finished just a breath behind her, setting a new African U20 record of 3:54.93.

In the 400m event, world record-holder Wayde van Niekerk continued his impressive comeback with a time of 44.08, his fastest since winning the 2017 world title. This time was also a new meeting record. In the women’s 400m, Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek clinched a victory in 49.48, the fastest time by a Polish woman since 1976, sparking one of the biggest cheers of the afternoon. 

World champions Shericka Jackson and Fred Kerley were narrowly defeated in their respective 100m races. Despite this, Jackson clocked a world-leading 10.65 at the recent Jamaican Championships, while US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson won with a timing of 10.76. World record holder Mondo Duplantis won the pole vault with 6.01m, and world record-holder Ryan Crouser took the shot put with 22.55m. Soufiane El Bakkali clinched victory in the men’s steeplechase with a new meeting record time of 8:03.16.
