The Kamila Skolimowska Throwing Festival, also known as the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, is a renowned annual athletics meeting that takes place at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland. This event is a tribute to Kamila Skolimowska, Poland’s youngest ever Olympic champion who claimed the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. It has been organized annually since 2009 by the Kamila Skolimowska Foundation.

The first edition of this meeting was held at the RKS Skra Stadium in Warsaw in 2009, and subsequent events took place at Warsaw’s Orzeł Stadium. By 2014, the venue had shifted to the National Stadium. However, the event found its current home in Chorzów, Poland, in 2018. In 2020, this meeting became part of the debut World Athletics Continental Tour. Furthermore, since 2022, the event has been included in the prestigious Diamond League series.

This competition has witnessed a remarkable journey and evolution. It transformed from being a respected local event at the capital’s SKRA side field, into one of the world’s most significant athletics meetings. The Kamila Skolimowska Memorial is typically held in the month of July.

The 2023 edition of the event

On July 16, 2023, the Silesia Diamond League 2023, also the 2023 edition of the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, is all set to be staged in Chorzów, Poland. The event will feature the likes of Fred Kerley, Marvin Bracy, Trayvon Bromell, Akani Simbine, Tobi AmusanYulimar Rojas, Wayde van Niekerk, Armand Duplantis, Ryan Crouser, Soufiane El Bakkali, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, and many more stars.

Since last year saw 28 thousand people attending the event on August 6, 2022, which was also the first-ever Diamond League meeting, this edition of the Silesia Diamond League 2023 is expected to draw many spectators.
