EPL stats: Which clubs have taken the most corners in 2022-23 Premier League season?

The new Premier League season has finally started after a gap of more than two months. There are some exciting encounters in the opening weekend, which undoubtedly adds to the amusement of the supporters. All the clubs will be optimistic about their team’s chances of doing well in the league since a new campaign provides a new start. However, before diving deep into the 2023-24 season, it is important to look back at one of the most noticeable stats from last term.

Which club has taken the most corners?

The team at the top of this list is Newcastle United with 270 corners being taken during the 2022-23 Premier League season. They have taken way more than any other side in the division, illustrating their offensive mentality which has helped them maintain the pressure at the opposition attacking third. With plenty of tall and physical players present in their ranks, no side would be wanting to concede too many corners against Newcastle.

Champions Manchester City are placed second in this table with 238 corners being taken during the last league campaign. Pep Guardiola’s side are known for their aggressive attacking style of play, which involves them retaining plenty of possession and quick pressing to win the ball back after losing it. With City spending too much time on the attacking third to break down the opposition defence, it is not a surprise to see them being present at the top end of this chart.

Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion are narrowly behind Man City by taking 235 and 233 corners in the league last season. Despite both teams not finishing far away from each other, they both would have contrasting emotions over how their season had turned out. Liverpool secured the fifth spot, while Brighton finished one place lower. Even though both clubs qualified for Europa League, it is Brighton who would be happier of the two, as Liverpool’s ambitions are a lot higher.

Arsenal, Chelsea not far behind

Fifth and sixth spots in the table are occupied by London heavyweights Arsenal and Chelsea. They both have registered 223 and 209 corners to their names respectively during the course of the last league campaign. While the Gunners secured a respectable second spot, the Blues ended up finishing outside the top half of the league table.
