EPL stats: Which players have missed the maximum number of big chances in 2022-23 Premier League season?

The recently concluded Premier League season had plenty of twists of turns along the way. Clubs which were expected to fight for European places fell out hard, while there were few surprising dark horses who took the league by surprise. This was not only the case at the top of the table but was also the same in the relegation battle as well. The teams backed by many to go down ensured their safety well before the final matchday, while some unexpected sides got relegated, leaving many in shock.

The same was the case in the battle for the Premier League title as well. Manchester City and Liverpool were backed by many to fight for the league, however, the Reds endured a forgettable 2022-23 campaign, which saw them miss out on Champions League football altogether. Arsenal emerged as a surprise contender and stayed atop the table for long periods. However, a massive collapse at the business end of the season saw them relinquish the top spot to Manchester City.

Which player has missed the most big chances?

The player at the top of this list is Manchester City’s goalscoring machine Erling Haaland. He has been one of the signings of the season. The Norwegian played a crucial role in all competitions to help City win a historic treble. He was scoring goals left right and center as Pep Guardiola’s side maintained the pressure on Arsenal for most parts of the season before overtaking them for the title. However, what this statistic proves is that Haaland had excellent service up top. Despite missing 28 big chances, he still managed to score goals aplenty.

Second in the list is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The Englishman endured a poor 2021-21 campaign, which saw many pundits and supporters question is progress as a forward. However, Rashford put all those criticisms to bed by leading the line admirably for the Red Devils in all competitions. Rashford, who can play on the left or up top, has missed a total of 22 big chances throughout the 2022-23 league season.

Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Ollie Watkins tied for third

The third spot is tied between multiple players. Liverpool strikers Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah along with Aston Villa’s forward Ollie Watkins have missed 20 big chances each in the league.
