10 highest scores in T20 cricket history 

T20 cricket has changed the way cricket is played, the strike rates of batters have skyrocketed and the scores of 200 runs have become common in 20 overs. There have been times when teams have crossed the barrier of 250 runs as well. Not so long ago, 250 runs were considered to be a decent first innings score in the 50-over format, it just shows you how much the game has changed. There have been some players who have contributed towards changing the game and the scores are only going upward with every passing year.

The popularity of cricket has grown leaps and bounds in the last two decades and the shortest format of the sport has gathered all the attention. Due to the success of the T20 leagues across the globe, T20 cricket is by far the most watched format of cricket, this had led to some high-scoring affairs which have entertained one and all. Currently, Afghanistan holds the record for the highest T20 score, courtesy 278/3 they scored against Ireland on February 23, 2019 and there have been some teams which have come close to breaking this record as well.

1. Afghanistan 278/3 vs Ireland

Afghanistan leads the chars of the highest total achieved by a cricket team in the T20 format. They scored 278 runs with the loss of 3 wickets against Ireland on 23 February 2019 at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun. Hazratullah Zazai top scored with 162* (62 Balls) including 11 boundaries and 16 maximums, he was ably supported by Usman Ghani who smashed 73 in just 48 Balls.

2. Czech Republic 278/4 vs Turkey

The Czech Republic cricket team take the 2nd spot on the list, they hammered 278/4, against Turkey on 30 August 2019 at Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground. Sudesh Wickramasekara top scored with an unbeaten 104* (36 Balls) which included 8 boundaries and 10 maximums, he was helped by Sumit Pokhriyal who notched up 79 of just 52 Balls.

3. Australia 263/3 vs Sri Lanka

Australia is in the 3rd spot, they hammered 263/3 against Sri Lanka on 06 September 2016 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka. Glen Maxwell opened the batting and remained not out on 145 (65) while David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head made handy contributions as well.

4. Sri Lanka 260/6 vs Kenya

Sri Lanka smashed 260/6 against Kenya on 14 September 2007 at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, this was the highest total for a long time before getting broken. Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene and Jehan Mubarak contributed towards this mammoth score.

5. India 260/5 vs Sri Lanka

India cracked 260/5 against Sri Lanka on 22 December 2017 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with 118 (43 Balls) and KL Rahul also made a valuable contribution of 89 (49 Balls).

6. Czech Republic 258/2 vs Bulgaria

Czech Republic also take the 6th spot on this list, they scored 258/2 against Bulgaria on 12 May 2022 at Marsa Sports Club. Sabawoon Davizi led the batting charts with 115* (59 Balls) which included 7 boundaries and 8 maximums. Dylan Steyn also notched up 106 in just 55 Balls, which included 17 boundaries and 2 maximums.

7. Denmark 256/5 vs Gibraltar

Denmark smacked 256/5 against Gibraltar on 29 June 2022 at Royal Brussels Cricket Club Ground, Waterloo. Nicolaj Laegsgaard, Saif Ahmad and Saran Aslam were the chief contributors with the bat.

8. New Zealand 254/5 vs Scotland

The Black Caps are in eighth place on the list, they scored 254/5 against Scotland on 29 July 2022 at Grange Cricket Club Ground, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh. Mark Chapman top scored with 83 (44 Balls) and Michael Bracewell scored an unbeaten 61 which helped the team get this huge score.

9. Scotland 252/3 vs Netherlands

Scotland scored 252/3 against the Netherlands on 16 September 2019 at The Village, Malahide, Dublin. George Munsey scored a brilliant 127* (56 Balls) and Kyle Coetzer supported him well with 89 (50 Balls).

10. Australia 248/6 vs England

Australia take the 10th spot on the list, they hammered 248/6 against England on 29 August 2013 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Aaron Finch top scored with a mammoth 156 in just 63 Balls, which included 11 boundaries and 14 maximums. Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh also made valuable contributions.
