Neeraj Chopra: What are the Olympic champion’s top ten best throws?

Neeraj Chopra is the most successful Indian track and field athlete in the history of the sport. Neeraj instantaneously grabbed millions of followers when he claimed the men’s javelin title at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a throw of 87.58 meters in the finals. With this, he also scripted history for India by becoming the first track and field individual gold medalist for the nation. He achieved his second significant medal by winning the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States.

However, Neeraj Chopra couldn’t defend his title at the Commonwealth Games 2022 as he pulled out of the games, owing to fitness issues. Earlier, he had suffered a strain in his groin during the competition at the World Athletics Championships 2022. Neeraj Chopra earned the prestigious Wanda Diamond League 2022 final in Zürich on September 8, 2022, with a best throw of 88.44 meters (one of his top ten best throws), and with this, he became the first Indian to accomplish this feat.

What are the Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra’s top ten best throws?

The reigning Olympic champion’s best throw came at the Diamond League Stockholm league on June 30, 2022, which was a gigantic 89.94 m throw, just 0.06 m short of the 90 meter mark. In the same month, he had also registered an 89.30 meter throw at the Paavo Nurmi Games. While his 89.08 meter throw at the Diamond League 2022 Lausanne leg was his third-best throw. His fourth and fifth best javelin throws were at the World Athletics Championships 2022 and the Diamond League final. Considering the majority of his best throws were recorded in 2022, it shows that Neeraj’s best is yet to come.

A few days ago, Neeraj Chopra confirmed that he will be making an appearance at the Diamond League 2023 in Doha. This will be his first appearance in the 2023 season as well and the champion athlete would be eager to make a lasting impression by breaching the 90-meter mark. However, it won’t be easy for Neeraj as he will be receiving stiff competition from world champion and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Anderson Peters, Olympics silver and World Championships bronze medalist Jakub Vadlejch, European Championships gold medalist Julian Weber, and Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Arshad Nadeem. With Neeraj making his 2023 season debut at the Diamond League Doha leg, let’s take a look at the top ten best javelin throws of the Indian athlete who will be yet again eyeing to bring glory to the nation.
