WTT Singapore Smash 2024: Sharath Kamal becomes the first Indian to reach quarters of a smash event

In the game with World ranking no.22 Omar Assar, Sharath, ranked 88th in the world, won the qualifiers and advanced to the main draw. After winning matches in the qualifying round where he defeated Romania’s Andre Istrate, Japan’s Yuta Tanaka, and Slovenia’s Deni Kozul, Sharath Kamal of India secured his place in the main draw. He then defeated Chilean World No. 31 Nicolas Burgos 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-6) in the round of 64, and went on to the quarterfinals after defeating Omar Assar.

Sharath Kamal, a 10-time national table tennis champion from India, has proven his mettle by reaching the Round of 16 at a Star Contender event in 2021. In the past two seasons, he had struggled to win a game at the high-level World Table Tennis (WTT) Singapore Smash event. However, his skills and experience make him a formidable opponent in the world of table tennis.
