Soon after, in February 2017, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There, he was the third-highest run-scorer with 444 runs from seven games, an impressive achievement. Later that same season, Gaikwad made his Twenty20 debut for Maharashtra in the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament. His consistent performances impressed selectors. They picked him for India B’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. After that, he earned a spot in India’s team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
