Achievements
Ju started her professional chess career with the national team at the tender age of 13 years as she was third in the Asian Women’s Chess Championship in Beirut. Subsequently, she began competing in the Women’s Chess Championship starting in 2006. However, in nine years from 2008-2017, she could not find any success.
On the other hand, she became the Women’s Grand Master for the first time in 2009. Later on, she also became China’s women’s champion for the first time. Consequently, she was also part of the gold medal-winning team at the 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou.
In November 2014, FIDE awarded her the Grand Master title in the 4th quarter Presidential Board meeting in Russia. Wenjun is now a fully-fledged grandmaster. Interestingly, Wenjun is China’s 31st grandmaster and the 31st woman to hold the title. However, Ju earned the biggest win of her career in the fifth round of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024. She defeated the world no. 6 Alireza Firouzja.
