ISSF World Cup 2024 Granada: Manu Bhaker earns bronze medal in 10m air pistol

At the ISSF World Cup held in Granada, Spain, in 2024, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker secured a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Bhaker, who has shown her skills in the Tokyo Olympics, landed in third place during the qualification with a score of 576 and nailed a 215.1 in the final to claim her spot on the podium.

Klaudia Bres from Poland bagged the gold with a 236.2 score and Mexico’s Andrea Ibarra matched the score but ended up with silver after the tiebreaker. Rhythm Sangwan, another talent from India, led the qualifiers with 580 points but didn’t have the same luck in the final, finishing eighth with 111.4 due to a rocky start.

Divya T.S., Yashaswini Singh Deswal, and Anuradha Devi also competed in the same category. Divya appeared in the qualifying round, ranking eighth with a 575 score, but she only aimed for ranking points. Yashaswini and Anuradha, with scores of 568 and 565 respectively, shot under the same conditions.

Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan are also set to compete again in the mixed-team event happening the next day. On the men’s side, Indian shooters didn’t reach the top eight in the 10m air pistol competition, with Sarabjot Singh, Ravinder Singh, and Ujjawal Malik all missing out on the final cutoff. Sagar Dangi and Varun Tomar also participated, though just for ranking points.

The event features not just pistol but also 10m rifle shooting where top shooters like Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Divyansh Singh Panwar, Mehuli Ghosh, and Elavenil Valarivan are ready to compete. India has brought a strong team of 34 shooters to Granada, with both juniors and seniors aiming for medals in the 10m air gun events.

The junior team already scooped up nine medals, four of which are gold. Fans can watch the finals on the ISSF’s YouTube channel live as there won’t be any TV broadcast in India. Out of five Indian shooters in each event, only three can push for medals in the finals, while the rest collect ranking points. Additionally, 14 junior shooters from India are out to show their skills in Spain.

The ISSF World Cup extends until February 18, with India rooting for its champions like Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Manu Bhaker in both the 10m rifle and 10m pistol events. At the Asian Games, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar stood out as India’s top performer, grabbing two golds, one silver, and a bronze.

He’s set to compete in the men’s 10m air rifle and the mixed team categories. Fellow Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar, fresh off his gold win in Cairo’s ISSF World Cup, will join him. Also competing are Mehuli Ghosh, who previously won silver at the Games, and Olympian Elavenil Valarivan.
