Harvey Elliott news: What did the youngster make about scoring on his 100th appearance for Liverpool?

Liverpool had to push themselves to the limit to register a come-from-behind victory over Luton Town in the Premier League. The Reds did not do much wrong in the first half but had to go into the break with a 1-0 deficit following Chiedozie Ogbene’s early strike. The home side responded in style in the second half by upping their level to go on a scoring streak. Goals from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott helped the Reds secure three valuable points.

That fourth goal by Harvey Elliott was extra special for the attacker since it was his 100th appearance for Liverpool in all competitions. At just 20 years of age, the versatile youngster has become a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s side. Be it as a right-winger or an attacking midfielder, Elliott has stepped up to the levels required to be an important part of the squad. He has already scored many crucial goals this season, particularly in the second half of the games. Reacting to it, Elliott told Liverpoolfc.com: “The best possible way and on top of that the three points as well.”

I want to get 200, 300 in my career here: Harvey Elliott

He added: “There’s no better feeling than scoring a goal [in front of] the Kop but today was that extra bit special on my 100th appearance. It’s just been an amazing journey so far and long may it continue. It’s all down to the gaffer and the coaching staff for putting the trust in me. I’m just very thankful for the opportunities that I’ve been getting from them and I want to give it my all for them, for the team, for the club as well. To reach 100 appearances for my boyhood club, it’s amazing but I don’t want to stop now. I want to keep going, I want to get 200, 300 in my career here. It’s a good achievement but after today it’s done and I just need to focus on the next game and keep going.”

Elliott then shifted his attention to the Premier League win over Luton Town, as he praised the character shown by his teammates. “Every game from now on is a final to us and we weren’t thinking about the weekend. It was just about getting the job done tonight. Whatever happens in the next couple of days, it’s what we can think about tomorrow. Tonight was just about getting the job done. Every game is a cup final, we just need to treat it like that. Luton are a tough team, a top side with quality and in the first half they showed that and caused us many problems. But I think the boys were resilient, had the desire and hunger in them to keep going, and the scoreline showed that,” he explained.

Next up for Liverpool is a Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday. Speaking about the grand fixture at Wembley Stadium, the youngster said, “It’s going to be another tough game but what an opportunity to go out and play at Wembley and have the fans behind us at the stadium and all around the world. Another great experience for us as a team and the chance for silverware. But we just need to make sure in these next couple of days we’re recovered, focused and then we can start building towards the game.”
