Europa League stats: Which players have hit the most shots on target in 2022/23 season?

The Europa League season came to a fitting end with the supporters witnessing a nail-biting finish to the competition. An evenly-fought contest with very little to separate each other was on cards in the final. Going into the title match, both teams were considered as favourites for obvious reasons. Any team led by Jose Mourinho will always be in title contention, hence it was not a surprise to see many backing Roma to lift the trophy.

On the other hand, Sevilla have a rich history in this competition, as others teams have often struggled to keep up with them. With not a lot to separate them, the neutrals were treated in for a feast in the decider. After the match ended 1-1 in regulation time, the game had gone to penalties following the extra time period. In the shootout though Sevilla won it to lift another Europa League trophy. With the season done and dusted, let us look at some of the eye-catching stats from the competition.

Which player has hit the most shots on target?

The player at the top of this list is not from any of the two finalists. Manchester United in-form forward Marcus Rashford had 17 shots on target, the most in the competition this season. He managed it in just nine matches. United were knocked out in the quarter-final stage by eventual champions Sevilla. The Red Devils were considered as one of the favourites for the trophy and they lived up to the expectations by producing some impressive results.

Their triumph over Barcelona stood out among the rest. However, Manchester United were undone by Sevilla in the last-eight stage of the competition. Despite not playing in the final rounds, it is impressive to see Rashford’s record still present at the top of this table, illustrating the good competition he has had this time around. Second in the list is Qarabag forward Owusu. He has hit the target 14 times in the recently concluded Europa League campaign.

Who are the other notable names?

Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala have hit the target 12 and 11 times respectively. Current Manchester United winger Antony and former Manchester United winger Angel di Maria have had attempts on target 10 times each.
