Born on Valentine’s Day in 1992, Hilton William Raymond Cartwright found fame as an Australian cricketer. He got his start in Harare, Zimbabwe. As a right-handed all-rounder, Cartwright really caught the eye. He did excite work with Western Australia and Melbourne Stars in home games. By January 2017, he started playing internationally. He had his first Test match with the Australian national team. Before that, he spent time with Australia A and the National Performance Squad. His road to the top included these important steps. Cartwright started his cricket life in Perth, Western Australia, when his family moved. His amazing work at Wesley College didn’t go unnoticed. This bagged him a chance to play for Western Australia. Here he played in multiple youth leagues and soon joined the under-23 team. Cartwright first got known for his amazing batting skills. But soon, his bowling talent also started shining through. His work with the South Perth Cricket Club, in grade cricket, carved out his niche as a promising player.

The local cricket journey of an Aussie player flourished. He had memorable games for Western Australia, Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League, and with Cricket Australia XI in the 2015-16 season. Showing great skill with both bat and ball, Cartwright secured a place in the Australia A team. Here, he shone bright. His victory in Sheffield Shield matches led to his crowning moment – wearing Australia’s uniform in Test and One-Day matches. His peak was winning the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award from Cricket Australia. Remarkably, this award came in the same year as his first international game.
