Volleyball Stats: Nations that have won Men’s Volleyball U21 World Championship

The prestigious global competition for under-21 male volleyball players, known as the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, is an internationally recognized event conducted by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). Originally called the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Junior World Championship from 2007 to 2011, the tournament kicked off its first edition in Brazil in 1977. The championship took place every four years for the initial three editions and has been biennial since.

In terms of historical accomplishments, Russia stands as the leader with six victories and three second-place finishes. Behind Russia is Brazil, which has a notable record with four championship wins and six times as runners-up. The Soviet Union has had the third most success in the Men’s Volleyball U21 World Championship, with four golds and two silvers under its belt. Following them in the ranking are Poland and Italy, holding the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The most recent edition of the championship took place in 2021, co-hosted by Italy and Bulgaria between September 23rd and October 3rd. This was a historic moment as it was the first time the event was organized by multiple countries. Iran secured their inaugural victory in the 2021 edition held in Bahrain. They emerged victorious in a final showdown against Russia, winning in a straight 3-0 set score line.

The 2023 edition of the Men’s Junior competition

The Men’s Volleyball U21 World Championship 2023 will take place from July 7 to July 16, 2023 in Bahrain. A total of 16 teams from 5 different confederations are marking their presence this edition. This will mark the third occasion that the competition is held in the country’s capital, Manama, within a period of four years. They last hosted the event in 2019. The country has also been the proud host of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship, a memorable event that took place in 2017.
