Natraj has been seen as one of the emerging and promising swimming talents from India. Currently, he is also part of the contingent that has headed for the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023. However, he was also part of the 2018 contingent.

Srihari won the first gold medal in 2016 in the 100 M backstroke at the South Asian Aquatic Championship. He also won gold in the other two categories of 200 metres in backstroke and 4x * 100 metres in Medley Relay. He also won silver in the same event in the 50-metre backstroke. In the 2017 National Junior Aquatic Championship, he won gold in 50 m, 100 metre and 200-metre backstroke & 200-metre freestyle. Subsequently, Srihari represented India in the Commonwealth Games 2018 and then again in 2022.

Apart from that, Natraj has also represented India in the 2019 World Aquatics Championships and the mega event, the Tokyo Summer Olympics. In 2019 he won gold medals in all four styles of swimming in the South Asian Games championship. In July 2022 Srihari qualified for the semifinals ranking fifth as he swam a time of 54.68 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100-meter backstroke. He also owns two records, the national record in the men’s 100-metre backstroke at the Sette Colli trophy meet in Rome, in 2021 and the first Indian to reach finals in the 2018 Youth Olympics. 

Domestic Career

In the domestic career, Srihari Nataraj swims for the Dolphin Aquatics Club which is located in his hometown of Bangalore. Apart from this, Srihari also spends his time in the Aqua Nations Sports Academy which is located in Dubai. Besides this, he also competes for his home state of Karnataka where he notched up significant performances during the 37th National Games as he ended with 8 medals.

International Career

Now coming to the international career, Srihari started to gain fame in the international stage in 2017, when he competed in short course swimming at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Subsequentyl, he represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast. A few months later, he competed at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the same year, he also competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

However, his hour of reckoning came during the 2019 South Asian Games where he won 4 back-to-back gold medals in the same. Subsequently, he qualified for Tokyo Summer Olympics after FINA approved his ‘A’ standard qualification time in men’s 100m backstroke time trial at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome. Currently, Srihari is only focussed on his “mission Paris” to qualify for consecutive Olympics.
