Torrie Wilson reflects on being mistreated sexually in the WWE

Torrie Wilson is a prominent figure from the Divas era of WWE. She recently opened up about the uncomfortable situations she faced during her time with the company. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Wilson candidly shared her experiences, shedding light on the challenges she encountered as a part of the women’s wrestling scene in the early 2000s.

During the Divas era, in-ring competition took a backseat, with segments often revolving around pillow fights and bikini contests, emphasizing sex appeal over match quality. Reflecting on these segments, Wilson admitted that they were far from enjoyable. Speaking specifically about her involvement in swimwear segments, she revealed the emotional toll it took on her, citing a particular house show where she struggled to get through a bikini showdown with Dawn Marie and Sable.

Wilson recounted, “They were all mortifying, people don’t realize. I went out there and owned it the best I could and pushed through the fear, but it was mortifying.” She vividly described a moment during a house show where the content became overly raunchy, leaving her on the verge of tears, questioning her participation. Despite the discomfort, Wilson acknowledged that it was part of her job.

Torrie Wilson faced problems with creative directions

The interview delved into the challenges Wilson faced in asserting herself and saying no to creative directions that made her uncomfortable. She admitted to being a people pleaser, finding it difficult to refuse even when uncomfortable situations arose. Wilson recounted instances where she did say no, notably refusing a request from Vince McMahon to emulate Sable’s iconic body paint segment and another time when she declined a hardcore press for a video accompanying her Playboy shoot.

Wilson clarified that while she had no issues with agreeing to the Playboy shoot itself, she faced unexpected challenges during the actual photo shoot, realizing there would be other people present in the room. Despite the initial excitement about being featured in such a renowned magazine, the reality of the shoot’s intimate nature became apparent as she landed for the session.

In addition to her experiences in the wrestling industry, Wilson touched upon her WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2019. Looking back on the ceremony in 2022, she revealed that she was restricted from mentioning one of her former WWE rivals in her induction speech.

Torrie Wilson’s candid revelations provide a glimpse into the complexities and challenges faced by women in the wrestling industry during the Divas era, highlighting the evolving landscape of women’s wrestling in recent years.
