Unnati Hooda made a strong impression during the Khelo India Youth Games in June 2022, overcoming seasoned players Aditi Bhatt and Tasnim Mir, both previous members of India’s Uber Cup teams, on their way to clinching the gold medal. Earlier in the year, Tasnim Mir had achieved a milestone by becoming the first Indian world No. 1 in the U19 girls’ singles. Despite falling behind in the final match against Tasnim Mir, Unnati staged an extraordinary come-from-behind victory, turning around a game and a 10-18 deficit in the second set.

2022 marked a significant leap in Unnati’s career. Starting the year at the world No. 418 spot, she moved up 200 places following her victory at the Odisha Open, reaching world No. 217. By later that year, Unnati made her way into the top 100 in badminton world rankings. In October 2023, Unnati secured her second senior title. She emerged victorious against fellow Indian Samiya Imad Farooqui in the finals of the Abu Dhabi Masters, a Super 100 event on the BWF World Tour, after an intense battle for the championship.

Unnati Hooda was named to India’s Uber Cup team after securing third place in the selection trials. She earned a spot on the team for the Asian Games too, but was later removed when the event got moved to 2023. At that point, the young badminton player faced a decision: participate in the All India U19 ranking event or try out for the national team. Hooda went for the trials, and it ended up being a wise move as it allowed her to fulfill a dream.

As a long-time admirer of PV Sindhu, Hooda was thrilled to join her hero at the Uber Cup. Even though she didn’t get to play in any matches, just observing the seasoned pros compete was very valuable to her. Being on the Indian Uber Cup squad was an unforgettable experience. Watching legends like PV Sindhu and learning from HS Prannoy’s determined performance in crucial matches motivated her immensely. This was a drive to always persevere, Hooda expressed to The Indian Express.
