Kartik Kumar is an Indian athlete who was born on May 12, 1999 and competes internationally. His most recent finish in the Delhi Half Marathon 2022 men’s half marathon was in 15th place. Kartik Kumar started jogging at the age of 14 after being motivated to do so by a rural neighbor who was getting ready to enlist in the Indian Army. He explained his decision to start running professionally in an interview, saying, “Many boys in our area run because they are getting ready for the Army physical (test).” A high jumper who participated in the nationals also encouraged many young people to pursue athletics, but the primary objective is to enlist in the Army.” To get ready for long-distance competitions, Kartik Kumar started his professional training at Saharanpur’s Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.

He gained recognition as a national-level athlete in 2016 after winning a silver medal in the 3000-meter event at the Junior Nationale in Kozhikode. He has competed in numerous competitions, such as the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships (Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi) and the National Federation Cup (CH Muhammed Koya Stadium, Thenhipalam). Gujarat hosts the Indian National Games and the National Open Championships in the Stadium Hanamkonda in Warangal. Chief running coach of the Indian Army Amrish Kumar selected Kartik Kumar to enlist in 2019 after seeing him at the Federation Cup in Patiala.

Kartik Kumar ran the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon in 2022 in a time of 1:04:00, setting a new career best. Karthik Kumar was chosen by the Reliance Foundation to be a part of the National camp in November 2022. He competed in the 25th Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, during the summer of 2023. Kartik Kumar then traveled to Colorado, USA, to train under coach Scott Simmons for the 2022 Asian Games. He traveled to Hangzhou, China, in September 2023 to compete in the 2022 Asian Games. There, he set a new personal record of 28:15.38, shaving 40 seconds off of his previous best. At the TCS World 10K 2022 in Bengaluru, he ran a time of 30:06 in 2023, finishing in second place.
