Pro Kabbadi League Season 10: How can the various teams qualify for knockouts?

Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 10 has entered its final phase. Naturally, the competition intensifies, with six playoff spots up for grabs. The top two teams will secure a direct entry into the semi-finals, while the third-placed team will face the sixth-placed team, and the fourth & fifth-placed teams will battle it out in the eliminators.

The playoffs are scheduled to begin on February 26th in Hyderabad. Subsequently, the teams have been strategically calculating their moves to secure a spot in the semi-finals on March 1st. To understand how the teams are placed, let us look into the qualification scenario for various franchises.

Qualification scenario of various teams

1. Puneri Paltans

If there is one team that can challenge the Pink Panthers for the top spot, then it is the Paltans from Pune. Not to forget it was Pune who were the losing finalists when Jaipur won it last year. Paltans have secured their playoff spot thanks to their all-round performance. They have been the team to beat this season as they have dominated sides. The score difference of +208 speaks volumes about their domination. Pune will look for a top-two finish to book their place in the semifinals directly.

2. Jaipur Pink Panthers

The defending champions secured their playoff spot early, maintaining their winning form from the previous season. With a strong core and standout performances, they have also secured a qualification round. They currently sit at the second spot on the points table with 82 points.

3. Dabang Delhi KC

Dabang Delhi became the third team to book their ticket to Hyderabad. The season eight champions started the tournament as one of the favorites with Naveen Kumar set to lead them to the title. But an injury in the Chennai leg halted the journey of the Naveen Express for this season. But that has inspired the team from the nation’s capital as Ashu Malik has taken them to the Playoffs.

4. Gujarat Giants

Gujarat Giants have more or less secured their playoff spot as they stand fourth in the points table with 60 points. A win will take them to 65 points which is one point more than any of the bottom six teams could reach if they win all their remaining games. Gujarat’s remaining games are against Bengaluru Bulls, UP Yoddhas, and Jaipur Pink Panthers. Given the form of the two-time finalists, the Fazel Atrachali-led side has a higher chance of making it to the playoffs.

5. Haryana Steelers

Haryana Steelers have been consistent throughout the season and have been in the top half of the points table. The Manpreet Singh-coached side are well-placed with 60 points from 18 games. A win from the remaining four games will take them to the playoffs. With all four games on their home turf, they will be confident to win and move forward to playoffs, having missed out by a whisker in the last two seasons.

6. Bengal Warriors

The season seven champions have an outside chance to qualify if they can win all the remaining games by a good margin and hope multiple results go their way. With 55 points in 21 games, one win in one remaining match will take them to 60 which might not be enough as the other contender Haryana Steelers have the opportunity to get to 80 points. Bengal Warriors would give their all-out in their last match to go for the win and you never know in Kabaddi where the fortune changes in a few seconds.

7. Tamil Thalaivas

Tamil Thalaivas, in eighth place with 46 points, are out of the playoff race, ending their journey in Bengal.

8. U Mumba

U Mumba, in tenth place, are eliminated and aim to salvage the season by finishing on a positive note.

9. UP Yoddhas

Despite high expectations, UP Yoddhas could not live up to the hype, becoming the second team to be eliminated.

10. Telugu Titans

Telugu Titans, for the third consecutive time, are likely to finish at the bottom of the points table, hoping for a turnaround in the next season.

11. Bengaluru Bulls

Bengaluru Bulls have been the best-performing team from the south but that is not enough to secure a playoff berth. With 48 points from 20 games, the Bulls would have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to qualify. They will face the in-form team Haryana Steelers in their final game.

12. Patna Pirates

The three-time champions have secured their playoff berth and are in fourth place with 68 points, eyeing a record fourth title.
