The latest edition of the Men’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup

The 2023 Men’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup was the tenth edition of the event, which was held from May 23 to June 1, 2023, in Salalah, Oman. Ten nations – India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Oman, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, from the Asian contingent took part in the competition.

In the Men’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup final, the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team emerged victorious, defeating their arch-rival, Pakistan, by a narrow 2-1 margin in an exciting final match held in Salalah, Oman. Owing to early strikes by Angad Bir Singh (13′) and Araijeet Singh Hundal (20′), India maintained control of the match, and a series of exceptional saves by goalkeeper Shashikumar Mohith Honnenahalli ensured their lead persisted throughout the game.

This win marked a new milestone, earning them the record for the most Men’s Junior Asia Cup titles. Due to India’s unbeaten streak in this prestigious tournament, which also resulted in their qualification for the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup in Malaysia, the Hockey India Executive Board earned a cash reward of INR 2 lakh per player and INR 1 lakh for each member of the support staff.
