Hockey India announced a 39-member core group for the Men’s National Coaching Camp, slated to commence on November 29, 2023, at the Sports Authority of India in Bengaluru. This camp is a build-up for the Asian Games 2022 gold medalists’ participation in an upcoming 5-Nation Tournament in Valencia, Spain, starting December 15, 2023, where they will compete against Germany, France, Belgium, and Spain.
The core group for the training camp as announced by Hockey India includes prominent goalkeepers PR Sreejesh, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, Suraj Karkera, Pawan Malik, and a few youngsters. A strong line-up of defenders such as Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Varun Kumar, and Amit Rohidas will also participate. The midfield department features top players like ex-skipper Manpreet Singh, vice-captain Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Rajkumar Pal, Akashdeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, among others. The key forwards include Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Simranjeet Singh, and several others.

Craig Fulton, the Chief Coach of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team stated, “It was a long break from the National Camp after a successful outing in the Hangzhou Asian Games. Most of the players from the team played the National Championship in Chennai, and I too got a chance to watch some of the young and upcoming players closely. We will now assemble in SAI, Bengaluru with a fresh perspective to our preparations for the Paris Olympics.” “As I have maintained, it is a process and we will revisit our Asian Games campaign and understand how we can do better as a team and work towards that,” he added.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed his enthusiasm and said, “The past few weeks were fulfilling, both personally and professionally, with time spent with family and participating in the National Championship in Chennai representing our respective states. We are now eager to regroup at the camp and strive to enhance our team’s performance.”
