India at the Asian Games 2023

Avani Prashanth and Pranavi Urs aced the selection rounds for the Indian women’s golf team at the Asian Games 2023. These selection rounds took place at Kolkata’s prestigious Royal Calcutta Golf Club. Both athletes will team up with Olympian and another golfer from Bengaluru, Aditi Ashok, for the continental championship. Aditi, who came extremely close to bagging a medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, got a direct pass into the team because of her high ranking.

Pranavi Urs, 20, and Avani Prashanth, 16, were neck-and-neck at the trials, both scoring 10-under 206. Tvesa Malik, who ended up with a score of nine-under, was the third-best performer but didn’t make the cut this year, despite getting a direct entry last year based on her then ranking.

In the men’s selection round, Khalin Joshi led the pack, followed by SSP Chawrasia. Joshi’s score was 13-under 203, while Chawrasia wasn’t far behind with 11-under 205. They will be joining Anirban Lahiri and Shubhankar Sharma on the Indian men’s golf team. Both Lahiri and Sharma skipped the trials but secured their spots based on their high global rankings. Lahiri was also a part of the team that secured the silver medal for India in the 2006 Asian Games.
