Nigeria vs Angola: AFCON 2023/24 Live Stream, Form Guide, Head to Head, Schedule, Fixture and Probable Lineups

Nigeria aims to sidestep the burden of being seen as favorites in the Africa Cup of Nations as they take on Angola in Friday’s quarter-final at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium. The Super Eagles surpassed their AFCON 2021 performance by defeating long-standing rivals Cameroon in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Angola made history by securing their first-ever victory in the tournament’s knockout stage, eliminating Namibia in the process.

It started badly, with everyone carrying low hopes for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations. But after a scrappy 2-0 win over Cameroon, some are talking about getting a fourth title. Ademola Lookman’s goals and Victor Osimhen’s fighting spirit have converted some doubters. But mostly the fact that the team has kept rivals at bay. Outside of the early, poorly-defended run, the last clear chance against them was Andre Onana’s usually excellent palms Latif Blessing away in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire. And the draw for the round of 16 has given Nigeria a route to the final if South Africa really did pull off the result of the tournament by knocking out Morocco. The tournament is littered with upsets that shows how tight the balance has become between favourites and underdogs.

It will not be easy for Nigeria if they want to make it to another semi-final. They topped Group B, beating some of Africa’s hard teams like Burkina Faso and Namibia. He had a good campaign scoring good goals. But taking most of the goals for Angola were Gelson Dala and Mabululu. If there was one team with a grudge against Nigeria it is Angola. They pulled a lot of upsets including preventing Nigeria from qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Angola last played against Nigeria in the quarter-final of the AFCON 2006, winning that game and booking Nigeria’s ticket for home. This was the only time they made the final eight in the tournament since 1980. They also toppled a hard Namibia team to qualify this year with a Messi like performance in the last group match. Angola last made it to the final eight in 1980.
