Newport County vs Manchester United: What does Altay Bayindir make about his debut for United?

Manchester United’s journey in the FA Cup continued, with the club securing a 4-2 win following an entertaining fourth-round contest. United were always expected to get past Newport County with relative ease, however, the eventual contest was anything but a walk in the park. After the visitors went 2-0 up, the hosts put up a brave fightback to make it 2-2, something not many saw it coming on Sunday.

However, the Red Devils did well to avoid an upset by scoring two more goals in the second half to win the FA Cup fourth-round fixture 4-2 against Newport County. There were lots of talking points from that fixture at Rodney Parade but the most notable one was Altay Bayindir finally making his Manchester United debut after signing from Fenerbahce last summer. The 25-year-old got a chance in between the posts due to Andre Onana’s Africa Cup of Nations commitment with Cameroon.

Altay Bayindir on Manchester United debut

Speaking about his experience of playing for United, Bayindir told MUTV after the match, “I was playing my first game, I’m feeling very good because it’s a big club in the world and we have a big fan[base], everyone coming [to] every game, everyone supporting us. I’m feeling very good. Tomorrow, I will continue in the morning. Today is finished and we won today, we are very happy, but we have the next game and we need to be focused for every game, because every game is important for us, everyone wants to win because they know they are playing with Manchester United – it’s a big club in the world.”

However, it is unclear for how long Bayindir might enjoy starting in goal, with the club’s first-choice goalkeeper set to be in contention for a starting place soon. After the win over Newport County, United manager Erik ten Hag informed that Onana will be in contention for the next fixture. It is an important game for the Red Devils as they travel away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Thursday night.

“Of course, I always want to play more games, but we have a good relationship with all the goalkeepers. If the manager will give [us a] chance, we will play and we will give everything. We know our responsibility because we are playing in a big club, we need to give [our all] every day, every game, we need everything. Of course, I want to play with this great team, this great atmosphere, and in Old Trafford. I want to play in there with the fans,” he stated.
