Hong Kong vs Uzbekistan: World Cup Qualifying – Asia Live Stream, Form Guide, Head to Head, Schedule, Fixture and Probable Lineups

The AFC World Cup qualifiers are set to resume this week, with a match between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan on Thursday at Mong Kok Stadium. Hong Kong currently sits at the bottom of Group E with just one point from four matches, while Uzbekistan hold the second spot with four points, trailing behind group leaders Iran only on goal difference. With a FIFA ranking of 154, Hong Kong began their journey in the 2026 World Cup qualification by defeating Bhutan 4-2 on aggregate in the first round to advance to the group stage. Placed in a group with Iran, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, they suffered a 4-0 loss in their opening match against Iran but managed to secure their first point with a 2-2 draw against Turkmenistan at home.

Hong Kong aims to secure their first victory against Uzbekistan and take all three points in the group stage. However, their recent performance raises concerns, with their only victory this year being a 2-1 win over China, followed by defeats to Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia before their participation in the Asian Cup, where they failed to earn a single point, exiting the competition in the group stage. Uzbekistan enters the match in strong form, having not lost a game in regulation time since September 2023, with their last defeat being a 3-0 loss to the USA in an international friendly.

Since then, they have played 12 matches, including World Cup qualifiers, friendlies, and the Asian Cup, where they were knocked out after a quarter-final draw against eventual champions Qatar, losing in penalties. Under the leadership of Srecko Katanec, Uzbekistan stands second in their World Cup qualifying group, securing a 3-1 victory over Turkmenistan and a 2-2 draw against Iran, trailing due to a goal difference. Uzbekistan currently holds the 66th spot in the latest FIFA rankings, climbing two places from the previous ranking, a reward to their consistent improvement over the years.
