EPL stats: Which players have received the most yellow cards in 2022-23 Premier League season?

The recently-concluded Premier League season had it all from start to finish in terms of entertainment. There were nail-biting finishes, edge of the seat thrillers and mind-blowing individual performances. It was also filled with several surprise finishes across the division, with plenty of twists and turns happening throughout the course of the season. Some of the favourites fell down after going through a bad patch, while least-fancied sides had a memorable time.

For a while, even the battle for the top spot was quite intriguing. Arsenal led the Premier League table for so long that many believed they could go all the way. However, the Gunners slipped at the business end of the campaign, allowing Manchester City to leapfrog them and win the trophy. The same was the case in the battle for European places or relegation, with so many twists happening right till the very end.

Which player has received the most yellow cards?

The player at the top of this list is Fulham holding midfielder Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese deep-lying midfielder had an impressive campaign with the club last season, as they secured a top-half finish in the Premier League table. Palhinha does really well sitting in front of the backline and providing cover for their defence. He is very good at spotting danger and nullifying that threat for his club.

However, as it happens in that position, there are times when he misplaces the tackles and end up fouling the opponent players. This has resulted in Palhinha getting the most yellow cards during the 2022-23 Premier League season with 14. Second position is shared by two players and both are midfielders too. Newcastle United’s Joelinton and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves had collected 12 yellow cards each.

Who are the other notable names?

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has received 11 yellow cards over the course of the league season. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion’s sensation Moises Caicedo had got 10 yellow cards in that same period. He is the talk of an intense transfer speculation this time around, hence it will be interesting to see where his future will be in the upcoming campaign.
