EPL stats: Which players have made the most passes in whole of 2022-23 Premier League season?

No longer clubs are only focussed on winning a football match at any cost. A lot of teams try to play the right way by adapting attacking tactics. This approach is not only limited to the top clubs in Europe but mid-table or bottom half sides also set their team in a front foot attacking way. In a league like the English top flight, the TV revenue is quite high, which allows all the clubs to recruit quality players. This in turn provides the platform for teams to play out from the back.

Normally, teams do not risk passing from the back since a single mistake could prove extremely costly for a side. Hence, many teams take the approach of hitting long balls or goalkeepers going long with goal kicks. However, the times have changed now. A lot of clubs are not afraid to pass it out from back, even against a high-pressing team. It is not only limited to the big clubs but mid or lower-table sides are also not afraid to take this route.

Which player has made the most passes?

The player at the top of this table is somewhat a surprising name. Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Lewis Dunk has made the most passes in the 2022-23 Premier League season. Considering the talent on display or the big name players in the league, not many would have backed Dunk to top this charts. However, the English international has did well consistently for his club to be an integral part of their build-up phase.

Dunk has made a total of 3,208 passes in the recently concluded league campaign. He was an instrumental part of the team’s set-up as Brighton registered a memorable campaign that saw them finish in European positions – not something many would have hoped to see at the start of the season. Second in the list is Manchester City’s ever-reliable holding midfielder Rodri with 2,977 passes. He was once again at the top of his game, as Pep Guardiola’s side went on to win another Premier League title.

Virgil van Dijk completes top three

The Liverpool centre-back was once again at the heart of the team’s build-up phase. Overall, Virgil van Dijk made 2,581 passes in the league this season. There is also a place for another Liverpool player in right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has registered 2,309 passes. Midfielders such as Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice also have a place in this list.
