Another Premier League season has come to an end, as supporters turn their attention to the transfer window, waiting patiently for the pre-season friendlies. The 2022-23 campaign had many surprises across the division. Arsenal providing a valiant title battle and Newcastle United qualifying for Champions League are one of the few surprises. Teams that were not expected to be in relegation battle were demoted to second division, while some relegation favourites guaranteed their safety in the English top flight for another season.
The only expected outcome in the Premier League was at the top of the table. Manchester City, as predicted by many, won the league title. Other than that, there were several unexpected finishes all over the table. With the season coming to a conclusion, it is time to look back at some of the interesting statistics from the 2022-23 campaign. One of the most notable ones is the clean sheets chart.
Which goalkeeper has registered the most clean sheets?
The player at the top of this table is not one many would have anticipated to see at the start of the campaign. Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea tops the clean sheets chart having witnessed 17 shutouts over the course of the Premier League season. Considering how mediocre United’s defence looked in 2021-22 campaign, their keeper was not expected to top this table. However, de Gea has been in sensational form for most parts of the season, while also being properly helped out by his teammates.
The second place is shared by multiple players. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, Newcastle United’s Nick Pope and Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale have all kept 14 clean sheets each. Ramsdale’s heroics between sticks played a crucial role in the Gunners producing an unlikely title challenge which saw them eventually finish at second spot. Despite Alisson’s good form, Liverpool failed to make it into the top four places, while Pope was almost unbeatable in Newcastle’s goal, helping the club secure Champions League football after a long time.
David Raya in inspired form
Brentford goalkeeper David Raya was at the top of this game this season. Be it with shot-stopping or playing out from the back, the Spaniard was in inspired form, helping Brentford have a memorable campaign. He kept a total of 12 clean sheets. His impressive form has not gone unnoticed, as many teams are fighting to acquire his signature in the summer transfer window. Read the table below to find out more about the goalkeepers who have registered the most clean sheets in the 2022-23 season.
