EPL stats: Which clubs have scored the most goals from counter attacks in 2022-23 Premier League season?

The club that has scored the maximum number of goals from a counter-attacking scenario last season was Manchester United. The Red Devils are traditionally known for their breath-taking goals in the counter, something that has been a trademark even during Sir Alex Ferguson days. It is part of the DNA at the club. Hence, it is not a surprise to see the Red Devils continuing that legacy long after Ferguson’s retirement.

Season to remember for Manchester United

Manchester United’s performance last season will be remembered for all the right reasons. The Red Devils started the new campaign with a massive overhaul that saw plenty of their players depart and quite a few new additions make their way into the side. On top of it, the club also had a new manager in Erik ten Hag. With expectations at its bare minimum, ten Hag and his troops performed admirably in all competitions.

Manchester United emerged as one of the most consistent sides in the Premier League, as they were able to regularly pop up with the right results. It saw them finish in an unlikely third place in the league table – not something many saw coming at the start of the season. They also ended their trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup title and nearly added another by losing in the final of the FA Cup. One of the key reasons for the success was their ability to move the ball quickly from back to front. Overall, United scored 10 counter attack goals in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool, Manchester City share second spot

The second spot is shared by Liverpool and Manchester City. They both have found the back of the net seven times from counter attacks in the league last term. It is not a surprise to see the Reds at the top end of this list since Jurgen Klopp’s side are known to move the ball quickly whenever they have the possession. On the other hand, Man City are known for their possession-based style of play. However, this stat shows that City can also score goals from different avenues.

Among other sides, second-placed Arsenal have not scored enough from counter-attacking scenarios, which is kind of a surprise. The Gunners have registered only four goals from this situation in the league last campaign. Same is the case with their North London rival Tottenham Hotspur.
