The club that has put the maximum number of crosses in the ongoing Premier League campaign is Liverpool. It is not a surprise to see the Reds at the top of this list. Jurgen Klopp’s side have several variations to their game. They are capable of breaking down a defence by playing intricate one-touch passing moves down the middle, or quickly counter attacking from back to front in no time. Apart from these, they are equally capable of scoring a good number of goals from crosses.
It is this variation in their gameplay which makes it extra harder for a team to defend against them. Liverpool‘s build up play can be extremely unpredictable during the 90 minutes. They not only rely on the midfielders or attackers to create chances, but the full-backs also play an equally important role to the side’s attacking build up play. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson race forward at every available opportunity to deliver a cross into the box, which adds an extra dimension to their attack. Overall, Liverpool have registered 772 crosses till now in the Premier League this season.
Manchester City, Newcastle United not far behind
Second in the table is Fulham with 753 crosses to their name. They are not far behind Liverpool in this list, however, it looks unlikely that they will leapfrog the Reds in this table at the end of the season. Recently crowned Premier League champions Manchester City are fourth with 724 crosses. Just like Liverpool, City also have multiple variations to their game. Even though Pep Guardiola’s side are known for their possession-based football, they are also capable of mixing their gameplay to go direct when required.
Meanwhile, in-form Newcastle United are sixth in this tally by registering 696 crosses till now. They are in the middle of an impressive season, which is set to end their long wait for Champions League football. Newcastle have been a tough nut to crack this season, as their team is built on a solid defence. After winning the ball, they quickly counter-attack to hit their opponents on the break. A lot of their attacking play relies on crossing the ball into the box, hence it is not a surprise to see them deliver a good number of crosses this season.
Manchester United are way down in the list
It is quite surprising to see Manchester United being placed third from the bottom in this list. They have only registered 500 crosses till now in the league, which is not what many expected to see from the Red Devils this season. On the other hand, London clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea occupy mid-table positions in relation to crosses.
