There is no end to Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal this season. The Blues are experiencing a miserable campaign all over the pitch this time around. They are languishing in mid-table position and are too far behind the top four places in the English top flight. Therefore, Chelsea’s dream of securing European football could very well be over already. Besides, their miserable run in front of goal do not seem to stop either with the Blues finding the back of the net only 29 times in 27 Premier League matches this season.
With Chelsea also conceding 28 goals already, their goal difference is set at an alarming +1. It is not what many would have anticipated to see from the Blues this campaign, especially after the huge sums of money they spent over the last two transfer windows. One of the main reasons behind their poor run is Chelsea’s inability to find consistent goal scorers. With the Blues struggling to find any kind of rhythm on the attacking third of the pitch, it is unclear where their goals would come from.
Chelsea’s top goal scorers in Premier League over last five seasons
Big teams normally have renowned goal scorers playing at the top, who keep scoring bucketload of goals week after week. Sadly though Chelsea do not have such kind of player in their ranks. If their top scorers over the last five Premier League seasons are taken into account, then only one of them was a striker. The remaining players were either midfielders or wide players. It is not normally how a big side’s attacking unit would appear to be.
Chelsea’s top scorer in last season was none other than their young attacking midfielder Mason Mount. Seeing him top this list is not the only surprise but the mere fact that no one scored more than 11 Premier League goals in the whole season was a bigger surprise. It gets even worse in the 2020-21 season when Chelsea’s top scorer is their holding midfielder Jorginho. It is alarming to think that his seven goals were enough to top the Blues’ goal scoring chart in the league that campaign.
Chelsea are yet to replace Eden Hazard
In his prime, Eden Hazard was unstoppable. Hazard might be at Real Madrid currently, but most of his good days were at Stamford Bridge. Injuries might have hampered him getting regular game time over the last couple of seasons in the Spanish capital, however, the Belgian was at his maximum best for Chelsea. Hazard was their top goal scorer in 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In the 2017-18 Premier League season, Hazard’s 12 goals were enough to be the club’s top scorer.
