Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (KCP) stats: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has spent 10 seasons with four different clubs, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons. In 759 regular-season games, he averaged 11.5 points and 3.1 rebounds. He has one NBA title to his name. The Detroit Pistons picked Caldwell-Pope with the eighth overall choice in the 2013 NBA draughts. He spent four seasons with the Pistons before signing as a free agent with the Lakers in 2017-18. In 2020, he won his first NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. After being moved from the Lakers to the Washington Wizards in August 2021, he played a season with them until being transferred to the Denver Nuggets in July 2022.

Caldwell-Pope was a highly regarded high school athlete. He averaged 31 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a senior at Greenville High School in Greenville, Georgia. He guided the Patriots to the 2011 State Class A Final Four and two consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in 2009-10. As a senior, he was named to numerous prestigious high school All-America teams, including the 2011 McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.

As a senior, he was ranked the nation’s No. 3 shooting guard prospect and the No. 12 overall prospect by Rivals.com recruiting experts. Caldwell-Pope selected Georgia over scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee, among others, to play coaches, Mark Fox and Cody Anderson.

Winning the NBA championship with the Lakers

Caldwell-Pope re-signed with the Lakers in 2019, this time on a two-year deal for around $16 million. In 2019-20, he hit a career-high 38.5% of his 3-point attempts and finished third on the team with 92. Caldwell-Pope earned his first NBA championship in 2020 when the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in six games. He was crucial to the triumph, particularly in game 4, when his five straight points late in the fourth quarter helped the Lakers pull away from the Heat and secure the victory. He started all 21 postseason games, averaging 10.7 points in 29 minutes per game and converting 37.8% of his 3-point attempts.

Caldwell-Pope became a free agent after declining his player option for the second year of his deal. He re-signed with the Lakers on a three-year, $40 million contract on November 23, 2020. Caldwell-Pope was moved to the Washington Wizards as part of a transaction for Russell Westbrook on August 6, 2021. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in 77 games with the team.

On July 6, 2022, Caldwell-Pope was moved, alongside Ish Smith, to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Monté Morris and Will Barton. Caldwell-Pope agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract deal with the Nuggets on July 16. On October 19, he made his Nuggets debut, earning two points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals in a 123-102 defeat to the Utah Jazz.
