Johnson was taken 29th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20, 2019. The Spurs acquired Johnson’s draught selection in a 2018 transaction in which Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard was sent to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Raptors shooting guard DeMar DeRozan, center Jakob Pöltl, and a draught pick. Keldon was later added to the San Antonio Spurs roster for the 2019 NBA Summer League, which was held at Vivint Arena. Johnson agreed to terms with the Spurs on July 1, 2019. Johnson was assigned to the Austin Spurs, the Spurs’ NBA G League affiliate team, on October 30, 2019.

On November 22, 2019, Johnson made his NBA debut, playing two minutes in a 115-104 defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers. Johnson had a season-high 24 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists in a 123-105 win over the Houston Rockets on August 11, 2020.
