Ja Morant stats: What are his numbers with Memphis Grizzlies?

Ja Morant stats: Ja Morant is one of the NBA’s most intriguing young players. His quickness and fearlessness in making huge shots have helped him become one of the league’s finest point guards. The Memphis Grizzlies selected the 23-year-old as the second overall pick in the 2019 draught class. He was named Rookie of the Year after averaging 17.8 points per game, 7.3 assists per game, and 3.9 rebounds per game.

The next season, he guided the team to the playoffs while putting up incredible numbers. In the five-game series against the Utah Jazz, he averaged 30.2 points per game. He has come into the 2021-22 season determined to improve on his achievements from the previous NBA season.

When you’re a young, terrific NBA player, you’re certain to be compared to the game’s important figures. Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies, who is only 23 years old and already seems to be a regular MVP candidate, is no new to the player comp mania. Allen Iverson, Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose. And, of course, THE COMPETITION. The loftiest of high comparisons. But we’ll get to that one later. All of the players named above were legends in their prime so it makes sense. They were some of the most electrifying athletes the sport has ever seen in their primes. All of the players were named MVPs.

But, in terms of those men, Morant is tough to compare to any of them. Everyone enjoys a good player, but we may be dealing with a person who lacks one. Morant averaged 27.4 points per game as a 22-year-old. Only five other players aged 22 or younger have averaged at least 27 points per game: Trae Young, Luka Doncic, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Oscar Robertson. That’s not a bad list.

Ja Morant once decided to become a barber

Ja Morant was born on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina, to Tee and Jamie Morant. His mother was a high school point guard and a collegiate softball player, while his father played high school basketball alongside Ray Allen and for Claflin University. He briefly played semi-professionally and explored playing pro ball overseas. When Jamie became pregnant with Ja, he gave up his basketball career and stayed at home to care for his girlfriend and their infant child, changing jobs and deciding to become a barber.

Did you know Ja Morant was found by accident?

Morant was not ranked by the major recruiting organizations when he graduated from high school. Murray State really discovered him by chance when assistant James Kane went to a camp to watch another athlete. He found his perfect match, though, at Murray State, but he fell in love with the school’s close-knit community during his visit.

Morant started all 32 games as a freshman last season, averaging 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. He was one of two Division I players with 400 points, 200 rebounds, and 200 assists (the other being Marshall’s Jon Elmore). Morant’s draught status skyrocketed as a sophomore when he led the country with 24.5 ppg, 5.7 RPG, and 10 APG. He won the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s best point guard and became the first player since the NCAA began monitoring assists in 1983-84 to average at least 20 points and 10 assists per game.
