Damian Lillard contract 2024: Know everything about his contract length and salary

Damian Lillard has already established himself as the finest player in Portland Trail Blazers history, and the summer-long excitement sparked by his erratic devotion to Rip City is just the latest sign of his lofty position in the league’s individual rankings. Lillard is an unequivocal superstar, the extremely uncommon and valuable type of player around whom championship teams can be created.

But just because he’s achieved that degree of distinction and respect from his teammates and NBA fans alike doesn’t mean Lillard’s exact position among basketball’s best is beyond question. It’s not easy to find Blazers supporters who will agree that Lillard is second only to Steph Curry in that pecking order, but a large group in Brooklyn and elsewhere will also argue that Kyrie Irving is superior than him. For example, Sports Illustrated placed Lillard 11th among basketball’s top-100 players entering 2021-22, while ESPN ranked him ninth in the NBArank.

Lillard’s place among the NBA’s top ten players does not appear to be as secure as Rip City residents and his many competitive fans throughout the league assume. Good thing for Lillard, he still has potential to improve.

These three upgrades would not only solidify Lillard’s standing as a top-10 player, but would also help him realize his ultimate objective of winning a championship, whether with the Blazers or another club.

Early Life

Lillard is one of three children born to Gina Johnson and Houston Lillard, Sr. According to the younger Lillard, drugs and violence were rampant in his childhood neighborhood in eastern Oakland, California. In 2022, he told People magazine that his family’s “balance of love, care, and compassion” helped him avoid problems.

Lillard began playing basketball at an early age and attended multiple high schools while looking for the best program to display his abilities. Before his junior year (2006-07), he switched to Oakland High School, where he averaged 19.4 points per game. He had an even stronger senior season, scoring 22.4 points per game. Despite not being extensively recruited, Lillard got many scholarship offers and eventually accepted one from Weber State University in the Big Sky Conference.

In his first collegiate season (2008-09), Lillard averaged 11.5 points per game and was voted Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year. He rose up the NBA draft rankings after an amazing senior year (2011-12), scoring 24.5 points per game (second in the country) and won the Big Sky Conference’s Most Valuable Player title.

Lillard entered the 2012 NBA draft and was selected sixth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. It was the first time an NBA club picked a Weber State player in the first round, and only the third time someone from the Big Sky Conference did so. Lillard left Weber State before graduating, but he finished his degree three years later.

Playing Style

Damian Lillard is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the NBA. His ability to open up the floor with his long range, get to the basket, and finish makes him one of the league’s most difficult guards to defend. What I enjoy about observing him is his dedication to preparation and the determination with which he plays.
