World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 day 1: results and standout performance

The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships are being held in Glasgow, Scotland starting on the 13th of March. The event has drawn over 650 athletes from over 130 nations to compete in 26 track and field events, split evenly between men and women. The two athletes from India made it to the 19th World Athletics Indoor Championships because they crossed the qualifying marks in their events.

Chithravel and Aldrin hold the national records for the outdoor triple jump and long jump in India. On the first day, the crowd was thrilled to see the American team take home two golds at the Commonwealth Arena in Glasgow. Christian Coleman, the man with the fastest 60m dash record, snagged a gold with a blazing 6.41 seconds, beating last year’s world champ Noah Lyles, who came in a close second at 6.44 seconds.

They were joined on the podium by Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake. In the shot put, Ryan Crouser, the world record holder, didn’t disappoint, claiming another gold with a championship record throw of 22.69 meters. Hot on his heels were Tom Walsh and Leonardo Fabbri, throwing 22.07 meters and 21.96 meters, respectively.

The USA team is at the top of the medal chart after day one, with two golds, a silver, and a bronze. Australia, Belgium, and Canada have each nabbed gold as well. Finland, Germany, New Zealand, and Ukraine each earned a silver medal. Italy, Slovenia, Jamaica, and the Netherlands each finished the day with a bronze to their name.
