Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a middle- and long-distance runner from Norway. His gold medal victory in the 1500 metres in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics established new Olympic and European records. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Ingebrigtsen took home silver in the competition and gold in the 5000 metres. Four European championships have been achieved by him, including the 1500m/5000m double in 2018 and 2022. He became the second-youngest individual senior European track and field champion in history after winning the 1500 m in 2018 at the age of 17. His double triumph was unprecedented in history.

He has won four medals at the European Indoor Championships in the 1500 and 3000-metre events, including three golds, and won the 1500 m silver medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championship. Ingebrigtsen set a record by winning his sixth straight title at the European Cross Country Championships. He currently holds the 1500-meter indoor world record, which he set at Liévin, France, on February 17, 2022. He served as Eliud Kipchoge’s unofficial pacemaker for the successful sub-two-hour marathon attempt in October 2019 at the age of 19.

Ingebrigtsen became the first male runner born outside of Africa to win an Olympic or World Championships gold medal in the 5000 m since Dieter Baumann in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Ingebrigtsen won the Diamond League 1500 m title in 2022. As a junior, Ingebrigtsen won four medals at the 2017 European U20 Championships and the 2018 World U20 Championships.
