Jyothi Yarraji: What are the top 10 fastest 100m hurdles times of the athlete?

Jyothi Yarraji, a rising star in Indian athletics and a specialist in the 100m hurdles, has recently secured her first major international victory as she claimed a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023, currently underway in Bangkok, Thailand. Despite the challenging weather conditions, Jyothi emerged victorious in the women’s 100m hurdles with an impressive timing of 13.09 seconds.

Jyothi is recognized as the national record holder for the 100m hurdles in India. She surpassed Anuradha Biswal’s two-decade old record of 13.38 seconds on 10th of May, 2022. Jyothi achieved this at the Cyprus International Athletics Meeting in Limassol, where she ran a record-breaking 100m hurdles in a time of 13.23s. She subsequently surpassed her own record at the Harry Schulting Games in late May 2022 with a remarkable 13.04s.

On October 17, 2022, Jyothi Yarraji scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman hurdler to run below 13 seconds. This was at the National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru where she stopped the clock at 12.82s, setting a new national record which was aided by a wind assistance of +0.9 m/s. She ended the year ranked as the 11th best Asian overall and the second best in the 100-meter hurdles among Asian women. This remarkable feat of breaking the 13-second barrier earned Jyothi the title of ‘Best Female Athlete’ at the 61st National Open Athletics Championships.

Know about Jyothi’s best performance and coach

Jyothi Yarraji, before achieving her current record of 12.82s, had another remarkable sub-13 second performance during the National Games 2022 in Gujarat. She completed the 100m hurdles in a quick 12.79 seconds. However, due to a wind speed of +2.5 m/s – exceeding the acceptable limit of +2 m/s – this record was not officially acknowledged as the National Record.

Jyothi’s achievements can be attributed to her rigorous training under the skilled guidance of James Hillier. A former England Athletics National Coach and Athlete Development Manager, Hillier now serves as the Head Coach at the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High-Performance Center (HPC). Under his expert guidance, Jyothi has managed to reach these exceptional heights in her athletic career.
