European Games 2023: Events providing qualification spots/ ranking points to the athletes for Paris 2024 Olympics

The European Games 2023, also the third edition of the European Games, got underway on June 21 and will run until July 2, 2023. The games are being held at multiple venues in the city of Kraków, the surrounding Małopolska region, and Chorzów in the neighboring Silesia region. The opening ceremony of the multi-sport event was conducted at Stadion Miejski which is also the main stadium for the event.

The official announcement for the host city of the European Games 2023 took place during a gathering of the EOC General Assembly in Minsk on June 22, 2019. The unanimous decision was reached which designated Kraków and the surrounding Lesser Poland region as the chosen hosts for the Games. The selection process involved a show of hands voting method, confirming the decision. The contract between the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the host city was formally signed on May 17, 2022, solidifying their partnership and commitment.

Following Kraków’s successful bid, the EOC made an important announcement on June 28, 2019, stating that they had signed a letter of intent with the European Union of Gymnastics which made sure that the sport of gymnastics was included as a prominent sport in the upcoming Games. In July 2019, Hasan Arat, the vice-president of the Turkish Olympic Committee, was appointed as the chair of the EOC’s Coordination Commission, tasked with overseeing the planning and coordination of the 2023 Games. To further emphasize their dedication to hosting a successful event, both the city of Kraków and the Małopolska region reaffirmed their commitment by signing a letter of intent in October of the same year.
