Athletics Stats: What are the meet records set at the Bislett Games?

Held in Norway’s capital, Oslo, the Bislett Games is a prominent annual athletic meet at the Bislett Stadium. Initially part of the prestigious IAAF Golden League, it has transitioned into being a segment of the Diamond League. The history of international athletic events at Bislett Stadium began in 1924. These early athletic gatherings were dubbed “The American Meetings” until 1937. It wasn’t until 1965 that the Bislett Games came into existence, following a period of different organizers between 1947 and 1965. This was made possible by a partnership among three athletic organizations: BUL, Vidar, and Tjalve.

One of the founding figures of the Bislett Games was Arne Haukvik, who used to be active in politics and took up the role of the meeting’s director. Arne played a crucial role in shaping the Bislett Games and was famous for his hospitality. He annually hosted a traditional “strawberry party” at his home, inviting athletes, sponsors, and media representatives on the eve of the event.

Bislett Stadium has a vast history, including being a venue for Olympic speed skating events. However, in recent times, it’s mainly celebrated for hosting the Bislett Games, which invites many world-class track and field athletes. The stadium’s unique brick-colored track has been the stage for 65 world records. In 2004, the games temporarily shifted to Fana Stadium in Bergen due to the construction of the new Bislett Stadium in Oslo, under the banner Bergen Bislett Games.

The Bislett Games 2023, popularly known as Oslo Diamond League 2023, is all set to take place on June 15, 2023. Many Olympic/ World record holders like Jakob Ingebrigsten, Karsten Warholm, Armand Duplantis, and Yulimar Rojas comprise the star-studded field of the Bislett Oslo Diamond League 2023.
