Athletics Stats: Indian national record holders in track & field events

Indian athletes have been creating an impression in the international arena over the past few years. Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal-winning performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has acted as an inspiration for many athletes. Since then, the nation has witnessed numerous Indian national records holders in track and field events being broken and athletes competing with world-class athletes and collecting medals despite facing many challenges.

May 6, 2023, was a record-breaking day for Indian athletics as three National records were smashed on the same date.  At the Sound Running On Track Fest 2023 which took place in Los Angeles, USA, Parul Chaudhary broke a 13-year-old record of Preeja Sreedharan (15:15.89) which she had established at the Asian Games 2010 in the women’s 5000m. Avinash Sable bettered his own national record to finish with a timing of 13:19.30 and place twelfth at the World Athletics Continental Tour silver event. While, triple jumper Praveen Chithravel achieved a jump of 17.37m, to break Renjith Maheswary’s mark which he set in 2016 and qualified for the World Championships.
